ADDRESS BY HON. SHEINI KOFI AMADU, DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR CHEREPONI, AT THE SECOND ORDINARY MEETING OF THE CHEREPONI DISTRICT ASSEMBLY HELD ON THURSDAY, 20TH AUGUST 2026 AT THE PRESBY CHURCH CONFERENCE HALL



Hon. Presiding Member, Hon. Assembly Members, The District Coordinating Director, Heads of Department, DISEC Members, Friends from the Media, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good afternoon.

I am delighted to be with you all on this important occasion of our second General Assembly Meeting for the year 2026. I wish to join the Hon. Presiding Member in warmly welcoming you all.

As a district, we continue to face numerous developmental challenges. However, the RESET AGENDA, which is aimed at addressing these challenges, requires the collective support of all stakeholders, particularly Hon. Assembly Members, to achieve the desired outcomes. You have been pivotal to the gains made so far under my administration, and I wish to express my sincere appreciation. I will continue to rely on your experience and expertise as we work together to advance the development of our district.

1. Security

Hon. Members, development thrives in an environment of peace and security.

Since my assumption of office, the District Security Council (DISEC) has been proactive in addressing potential threats and conflict triggers. These efforts have led to the resolution of several land and chieftaincy disputes and contributed to the relative peace we are currently enjoying.

Let me emphasize that DISEC remains resolute and vigilant. Any attempt to undermine the peace of this district will be dealt with decisively. We will continue to collaborate with all relevant security agencies to safeguard lives and properties in the district.

2. Health-Sector

The Assembly continues to prioritize the wellbeing of our people. The District Health Committee has held its second meeting for the year to strengthen coordination and oversight of health delivery.

Work on the Nyangbandi CHPS Compound has been awarded and is nearing completion. The Regional AIDS Commission has inaugurated the District HIV/AIDS Committee, and we must intensify education on preventive measures as HIV prevalence remains a concern.

3. Education-Sector

The Assembly remains committed to improving access to quality education. Rehabilitation of Nurudeen Islamic JHS is 98% complete. A contract has been awarded for 1,200 metallic dual desks to reduce the furniture deficit.

A 3-unit classroom block at Kwame Nasoni has been completed, while a 6-unit block at Tumpondi is at roofing level. Additionally, a scholarship scheme has been launched to support the ten best-performing SHS students to pursue tertiary education — a historic milestone for our district.

4. Water & Sanitation

Plans are advanced to drill ten new boreholes and mechanize five existing ones. The Environmental Health Unit has intensified monthly clean-up exercises and promoted CLTS and ODF strategies.

Five communities per electoral area have been sensitized, and 120 people will be recruited to support sanitation services — 80 in Chereponi township and 40 in other communities.

5. Roads & Transport Infrastructure

Significant progress is being made under the Government’s Reset Agenda. The Saboba–Chereponi Road has been awarded under the Big Push Programme, and work is ongoing.

The Chereponi–Wunjuga–Wenchiki–Bunkrugu Road has also been awarded, and the contractor is mobilizing. Work has resumed on the Ogando–Chereponi section of the Yendi–Chereponi main road, with culverts ongoing at Zogbeli. Improved roads will enhance produce movement, reduce tensions, and promote peace.

6. Agriculture-Sector

The district has distributed 4,500 agricultural inputs to farmers. The District Director of Agriculture’s bungalow has been renovated. DRIP machines have been deployed to expand dams in Kablani, Nyangbandi, and Dambu, supporting dry-season farming and livelihoods.

7. Infrastructure & Economic Development

The new District Assembly Office Complex has been re-awarded and work is progressing. Construction of a modern market facility has commenced under the 24-hour economy initiative.

A solar streetlight project is underway, with 150 poles planned and 140 already delivered. Installation will soon begin to improve safety and visibility across the district.

8. Revenue-Mobilization & Finance

Against a target of GH₵223,000.00 for 2026, the Assembly mobilized GH₵247,053.00 as of June. The First Quarter Common Fund allocation of GH₵4,225,523.85 will support infrastructure and development projects.

9. Development Projects Update

Social Investment Fund (SIF):

  • 6-unit classroom blocks at Jilma & Nabujuku – 95%
  • CHPS Compound at Akolmabla – 95%
  • Kpamamba culvert – 90%
  • Teacher’s quarters at Wenchiki – 85%

SOCO Projects:

  • Nursing Training College Administration Block – completed
  • Demonstration Room – completed
  • 3-unit classroom block at Kpani – ongoing discussions
  • Fire Service Bungalow – completed
  • Dining Hall for CHESTEC – 47%
  • Market stalls at Nansoni & Tambong – ongoing
  • Rehabilitation of Garinkuka Primary School – completed

10. Common Fund Projects

  • CHPS compounds at Waku (88%) and Nabujoku (55%)
  • Classroom block at Tambong – completed
  • Renovation of Assembly Office and DCD Bungalow – completed
  • 3-unit classroom block at Kukpong – completed
  • Chereponi SHS Girls dormitory – completed
  • 10-seater KVIP at Chereponi Hospital – ongoing

Additional support includes:

  • 6-unit classroom project at Tumpondi (roofing level)
  • Procurement of 1,200 dual desks (740 supplied, 460 remaining)
  • Borehole projects: 9 hand pumps completed
  • Completion of Nyangbandi CHPS Compound – 55%
  • Completion of New District Assembly Office Complex – 50%

11. Support to Persons Living with Disability (PWDs)

Within the year under review, 205 PWDs (110 males, 95 females) received support worth GH₵298,733.00. Assistance included business tools, education, healthcare, agricultural commodities, and financial aid.

This intervention demonstrates the Assembly’s commitment to socio-economic inclusion and ensuring that vulnerable persons are not left behind.

12. Challenges

Hon. Members, one of the pressing challenges currently facing the district is persistent power outages. This situation continues to negatively affect businesses, public institutions, and households. The Assembly has invited relevant authorities to brief us on causes and measures to address them.

Conclusion

Hon. Presiding Member, Hon. Members, the Assembly remains committed to improving the living conditions of our people through strategic investments in key sectors. I urge all stakeholders to continue to support the Assembly as we work collectively toward a more prosperous Chereponi District.

The Reset Agenda is in full motion, and its success depends on our collective effort.

CAMA COMMUNITY IMPACT UPDATE

This Monday, 31st August , history was made in Chereponi The CAMA Chereponi District Members , in partnership with the CAMA National Committee , proudly handed over newly renovated classrooms at Sangbana JHS . For years, students and teachers struggled with dilapidated facilities. Today, thanks to this joint effort, Sangbana JHS now has a safer, brighter and more conducive environment for learning. At the handover ceremony, CAMA leaders emphasized their commitment to education development and pledged to continue supporting schools across the district. Parents, teachers and community leaders expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that this intervention will inspire confidence and improve academic performance.
